of Eurovision…
I knew I should have put money on it. Lordi was 25-1 in the UK.
Not being able to vote for Finland, I went for Lithuania. I liked their use of NLP to influence the voting. Worked suprisingly well. It may also be canny; it’s a song that likely to be played by the winners each year.
It seems as though Lithuania, Iceland and Germany all had comedians in their bands.
But Lordi was KLF-ian; a suprisingly good song, incredible theatrics, and perfect media management.
Now to see if Finland can remember how to celebrate.
Personally, I’m waiting for the pictures of Lordi meeting Tarja. An awful number of the middle- and upper-classes will be eating their words about Lordi bringing shame on Finland.
And then, of course, Lordi will be invited to the Presidential Ball on Independence Day. What do monsters wear for formal dress?
I thought the most Europoppy tunes that would play well to the masses were Ukraine and Croatia, but what do I know?
I’m sorry Iceland got knocked out in the semis as I saw a clip of it on TV and it looked suitably Bjork-esque.
Well done to Finland anyway, here’s to next year…
